New homes near Wheatfield, Indiana

A small town on SR 10 with the Kankakee Valley high school, middle school and intermediate school all on its side of the county, and a $7 billion data center campus approved down the road. Most new building here is on country lots, so the well, septic and electric provider matter as much as the house.

Why it is growing

What is changing around Wheatfield

  • Jasper County approved an Amazon Web Services data center campus in Wheatfield Township on June 17, 2026: about $7 billion, about 250 jobs, and $25 million toward expanding water service in the township. Source
  • The campus plan calls for up to nine buildings about half a mile from NIPSCO's Schahfer power plant. Source
  • Federal emergency orders have kept two Schahfer coal units available past their planned 2025 retirement, most recently through December 18, 2026. Source

Good to know

  • Founded with the railroad in the early 1880s and named for marsh grass that looked like a field of wheat.
  • Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area, south of town, hosts thousands of sandhill cranes from October through December.

Before you fall for a lot

Send me the address. I'll check the school line, the utilities and the builder.

School districts in The Flatlands follow townships, not mailing addresses or town names. Send a lot number, subdivision or street and I'll reply the same day with the district, water and sewer, and what's for sale near it.
